Ever forget to sync your iPhone? Tired of waiting for the backups to complete when you just want to add a few iTunes songs to your iPod app? Enter the SuperHero Dock Backup and Charger for iPhone, revealed at CES 2011. This puppy comes with an SD card built-in and backs up your iPhone effortlessly.
Every time you dock the iPhone to charge, the SuperHero will make an incremental backup of your contacts and photos. The SD card is 4GB and can be replaced with a larger capacity card. More than one iPhone can also be backed up using the SuperHero.
This is a great idea for those who are traveling or find themselves apart from their computer. One catch, iTunes library items such as music and videos are not backed up. This has to do with copyright issues and you'll still have to depend on iTunes to store these items on your computer. Email settings and text messages and the like are also NOT backed up by the SuperHero.
The Iomega dock depends on a free iOS app to handle backup settings and will not connect to a computer at all. Should something happen to your iPhone, just dock the new device to restore all of your contacts and photos while charging. Maybe Iomega will be able to add more features in a future app release, but this is a good start. This accessory has a slick Apple-like look, with brushed metal and a minimalist design akin to a Mac mini.
SuperHero is coming soon and runs $69.99 with a three year warranty. The device works with the iPhone 3G and later as well as iPod touch third and fourth generation models.
