The beta version of Ac1dSn0w is here. So what is it? PwnDevTeam has released Ac1dSn0w as an alternative tool to jailbreak Apple devices running iOS 5, including the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS and first generation iPad. The software also jailbreaks the 4th generation iPod touch and runs on Mac OS X Lion and Snow Leopard.
Like other jailbreak tools including Pwnage Tool, redsn0w and sn0wbreeze, Ac1dSn0w provides a tethered jailbreak solution for devices running iOS 5 or 5.0.1. Currently the software does not create custom firmware packages, however several features are available in the current version.
Ac1dSn0w has tethered boot functionality, pwned DFU and exit recovery features to make sure you can escape recovery loop on your device. Future versions of Ac1dSn0w will add never before seen features, such as the ability to jailbreak remote devices. This will add the capability to run a server program on your computer and remotely jailbreak an iOS device. iRecovery Remote is in development and takes this a step further, allowing the Ac1dSn0w server to communicate with iOS devices and send payloads and other data to these devices.
The Ac1dSn0w console is pretty straightforward, and a DFU Mode Assistant gives on screen instructions to enter DFU mode and jailbreak the iPhone. PwnDevTeam is not to be confused with the iPhone Dev Team, the developers of Pwnage Tool and redsn0w. More information on Ac1dSn0w can be found directly from PwnDevTeam.
Ac1dSn0w beta is a 35.5 MB download currently compatible with Mac OS X only. After your iOS device is jailbroken, Cydia will be installed. Of course, after jailbreaking you can easily semi-tether your device so that rebooting doesn't require a computer. With more competition on the jailbreak scene, we are bound to see even better jailbreak solutions for Apple devices in the future.
