The iPhone 5 may take quality photos and videos, but the stock Camera app doesn't say much about how much storage is left on your device. Having a video stop recording because the iPhone is full means missing the action. Those who are still running iOS 6-6.1.2 can solve this problem with the jailbreak tweak FreeSpaceCam.
FreeSpaceCam adds more information to the in-camera heads up display. Battery percentage, video time remaining, and available storage capacity can be added to the stock Camera app. Each individual stat can be switched on or off, and the tweak can be disabled entirely if needed.
There are two caveats to FreeSpaceCam. For one, each change to the settings requires a respring to take effect. A respring button is conveniently located directly within the tweak settings. The other catch is that time remaining is only displayed after 30 seconds of continuous video recording. Still, it can be helpful to know how much time is left if you're short on space or use the iPhone for video often.
Overall, these stats are a welcome addition to the native Camera app, even if the price is a little steep at $0.99.
FreeSpaceCam is available on Cydia from the BigBoss repo for $0.99. Check here for instructions on how to jailbreak iOS 6.x with evasi0n. You can also find out how to purchase and install Cydia tweaks with this guide.
