Apple today sent out invitations to select members of the press for an event being held at the company's Town Hall Auditorium in Cupertino, California on Thursday, October 16th at 10:00am Pacific / 1pm Eastern. The invitations read: “It’s been way too long".
Apple is expected to give OS X Yosemite one last preview before releasing it to the public and unveil its new iPad lineup at the October keynote. The new iPad lineup will most likely include a second-generation iPad Air and rumored 12.9-inch tablet dubbed the "iPad Pro" by the press. It is still unknown if Apple will announce a third-generation iPad mini, or discontinue the 7-inch tablet and replace it with its larger phablet-sized iPhone 6 Plus.
The iPad Air 2 is expected to be available in gold for the first time since Apple introduced the new hue for its iPhone lineup. Other rumored specs include a new thinner design with a relocated microphone and recessed volume buttons, Touch ID fingerprint sensor, a new A8 or A8X chip, 2GB of RAM, improved battery life and an improved camera. You can check out some alleged images of the new iPad Air design here.
There have also been a lot of rumors claiming Apple is working on a 12.9-inch iPad model, however, most of the sources seem to agree that the larger tablet won't be available until 2015. It will be interesting to see if these rumors are true and if Apple will unveil the "iPad Pro" on October 16th or wait until 2015.
Apple may not stop at iPads, some outlets and various unidentified sources claim that we could see a new Retina-enabled 12-inch MacBook Air in various colors, a refresh to Apple TV and perhaps a new iPod touch model.
