Ready to download 306 megabytes of Apple iPhone update? If you're looking for a fix for your outrageous 3.1 battery drain then keep looking.
Apple has released 3.1.2 firmware (skipping 3.1.1 altogether) but the bug fixes they have included might not help everyone. The most significant problem that 3.1.2 fixes is the so-called "coma" or "zombie" bug, where an iPhone refuses to wake from sleep.
Apple calls this a "sporadic issue" where the iPhone does not wake from sleep mode. Apparently the 3.1.2 Apple OS update fixes this problem.
Officially, the 3.1.2 Software Update, available using iTunes, fixes the following issues:
- Resolves sporadic issue that may cause iPhone to not wake from sleep- Resolves intermittent issue that may interrupt cellular network services until restart
- Fixes bug that could cause occasional crash during video streaming
It's great that these issues are fixed. The "occasional crash" and "sporadic issues" are a bummer but when is Apple going to come out with the 3.2 update and fix the constant ongoing battery drain?

This is the million dollar question. Until then, for users who have already updated to 3.1, don't forget your charger. And you car charger.

Had made a big mistake by upating to 3.1 within hours of it release. So just wonderig if anyone has updated to 3.1.2 and how is the phone working after the update. Hope there are no more so called "sporadic" issues.

The dropping of cell service until a restart has been there from day one in 3.0.
OS 3.1.2 seems to have fixed this problem for me. This issue would happen to me under the following circumstances:
iPhone is on and in use (I'm either using the phone or an application), I go out of cell range (in an elevator for example). and after exiting the elevator it would sometimes take 3 or 4 minutes for cell service to be restored automatically. Setting the phone to "Airplane Mode" and back again or restarting the phone would restore cell service immediately.

I downloaded the 3.1.2 update today, then went for a 4.2 mile walk. I used Trailguru as I usually do, as well as listening to a podcast as I usually do. Since the 3.1 update I would have used at least 50% of my battery using the GPS as much as Trailguru does. Today after the update, I used 20%. Not bad, I seem to see an improvement in battery life, but I'll have to use the iPhone some more to really know if I'm experiencing an improvement.

I personally was getting really ticked about the whole "not waking from sleep" thing, because the other night I was at a football game, and didn't know how to get there, so I had used the GPS on maps, then locked my phone.
It was asleep, with the GPS still on, for the next 3 hours. So when I tried to call my Father at midnight to let him know I was on my way home, dead battery, and stuck in the middle of no where.
So, this update is great for me. :)

I dunno what you're talking about, my battery works great, gets me through the day with no problems. It will last 2 days if I don't use it much.
Fix your shit, bro.

I fixed the battery drain issue by doing:
1) backup in itunes
2) restore to factory settings
3) restore from backup.
This requires you to reload our music, movies, and playlists manually afterwards, but this at least saves yor contacts and your apps.
Battery works fine after this.

I regretted upgrading to 3.1.2! The battery life has reduce aproximately 20-30%. Ah... I had the original firmware came with it that I bought in 2009. Sucks.

Since the 3.1.2 update my battery won't last. :(

Same battery issue here.
Last week I decided to upgrade to 3.1.2 because I thought my iPhone would work better and battery will last longer, but it's the opposite!
I had good 7-9 hours of battery on my 3.0.1, and now on 3.1.2, it's like 5 hours and it's 20%!
Same settings and apps were used on both firmwares.
So far I haven't found a fix, not even in Cydia, so when I get home today, it's back to 3.0.1!!
