New rumor suggests iPhone 7 won't include a Smart Connector

iPhone 7

Now that iPhone SE has been available for a few weeks the Apple rumor mill has turned its attention to the iPhone 7. The next-generation Apple handset is not expected to include any major new features, but recent reports have suggested that the new device will be equipped with a Smart Connector. The Smart Connector was first introduced on the 12.9-inch iPad Pro as an easier and quicker way to transfer both data and power from the new tablet to accessories, like the Smart Keyboard. The newly released 9.7-inch iPad Pro was the second device to feature the new charging option, but a recent report from Japanese site Mac Otakara claims Apple has decided not to include on its next smartphone.

According to recent leaks, the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus will feature slightly larger battery capacities than the current iPhone lineup. While this could mean longer battery life, there's a more exciting change in the pipeline. A few weeks ago, photos of an iPhone 7 Smart Connector surfaced. The Smart Connector made its debut on the iPad Pro, ostensibly to connect Apple's Smart Keyboard.

KGI analyst predicts more slumping iPhone sales due to unattractive iPhone 7

Samsung Galaxy S7

While all new iPhone launches are fun to diehard Apple fans, to the normal smartphone consumer there are attractive and not-so-attractive releases. The iPhone 4s was an attractive release because of Siri, and the iPhone 6 brought us the heavily requested larger 5.5-inch model. But on the other hand, Apple's unapologetically plastic iPhone 5c quickly and quietly disappeared, and the iPhone SE has failed to make a splash. Shockingly, Apple's rumored iPhone 7 may find itself being categorized as a not-so-attractive release, if you believe noted analyst Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities.

iPhone 7 Plus back

More iPhone 7 leaks point to a next generation Apple device with a similar form factor as the current generation iPhone 6s. Design changes are said to be subtle, with antenna lines being moved to the edges of the iPhone 7 or made invisible entirely. The dimensions and thickness of the next iPhone aren't expected to change much, but this doesn't mean Apple has no new tricks up its sleeve.
