Irohnide Pens Letter to Fans Explaining Why There is No PC Version of Kingdom Rush Origins

Ironhide Game Studio's popular tower defense series Kingdom Rush has had weird launch history. The original title got its start as a free flash game on Armorgames.com in 2011 and was ported to the iPad a few months later. The game was eventually released to Android devices in 2013 before it finally landed on Steam in 2014. The sequel, Kingdom Rush Frontiers, was originally released to iOS devices before making its way to Android and back to where it all started on Armor Games. Unfortunately for PC fans the third title in the series, Kingdom Rush Origins, was only released for iOS, Android and Amazon mobile devices with no plans for a PC release, but why?

Today Ironghide released an "open letter of love" explaining why there will never be a PC version of the prequel. The letter gives a detailed explanation as to why the Ironhide team chose not to release a PC version and all Kingdom Rush fans should read it in its entirety.

Kingdom Rush Origins Teaser Trailer

Ironhide Game Studio has released the first teaser trailer for Kingdom Rush Origins -- the prequel to Kingdom Rush and Kingdom Rush Frontiers. The video doesn't reveal anything about the gameplay of Origins, but it does promise it is "coming soon"!

Kingdom Rush is a popular franchise of tower defense games set in medieval times. The first title was released as a free flash game on July 28, 2011 before being ported to iOS and Android devices. The sequel, Kingdom Rush Frontiers, was released to iOS devices on June 6, 2013. Ironhide has released several free updates for both games, including a Halloween-themed level, before capping them off with an Endless Mode on July 31, 2014.

Kingdom Rush Endless Challenge Trailer

Ironhide Game Studio released a new teaser trailer for Kingdom Rush and Kingdom Rush Frontiers. The video shows the new endless challenge modes coming to both games. The Frontiers' level seems to have an Egyptian theme. You can see the bottom of a pyramid and Anubis-like bosses in some of the gameplay clips. It is also nice to know that Ironhide Game Studio took the time to add new enemies instead of just recycling the old ones. This is what makes Kingdom Rush and Frontiers two of the best tower defense games ever released.

It is still unknown if this will be the last update for the franchise. Developers typically only release an endless mode when they are finished with a game. This isn't necessarily a bad thing because the ending of Frontiers does hint at a possible third game. It is also hard to imagine that Ironhide will abandoned the popular franchise since they have been adding fresh content since Kingdom Rush was originally released in 2011.

Kingdom Rush and Frontiers Endless Modes Coming Soon

After updating the Steam version of Kingdom Rush with The Curse of Castle Blackburn campaign, Ironhide Game Studio announced both Kingdom Rush and its sequel Kingdom Rush: Frontiers will be getting "Endless Modes". It has been over seven months since the last update was rolled out to Frontiers.

Kingdom Rush Endless Mode

While this is good news, "endless modes" are normally the last and final update developers add to their games. However, Ironhide has been supplying Kingdom Rush fans with new content since it was originally released in 2011, so it is hard to believe this is the end of the franchise.

Kingdom Rush 1 and 2 Holiday Updates Now Available

Both the original Kingdom Rush and its sequel Kingdom Rush Frontiers have received free holiday updates from Ironhide Game Studio.

Kingdom Rush has been updated with a new mission, where players must help the elves defeat a new evil that has risen from the depths of the Rotten Forest. Kingdom Rush Frontiers Holiday Update

In Frontiers, the Saurians are back, and they're seeking revenge right before the holidays! The update brings the new free level The Darklight Depths, a new boss fight with King Xyzzy and his Saurian Deathcoils, a new FREE hero named Bruxa aka "the voodoo priest, master of black magic," and a new $4.99 hero Khaz the Minotaur Warlord.
