The team behind the iPhone Dev Wiki, which has become the foremost camp of hackers attempting to unlock the Apple iPhone, has hit another major milestone in their efforts. The team released news recently that they have successfully extracted the full content of the NOR memory (from the S-Gold2).
Although the Wiki team hasn't released the source code or the dump of the NOR memory at this point, they have released a binary which will allow others to dump the content of their iPhone's NOR memory as well.
Don't know what that means? Join the masses. The important thing is
that, according to the dev wiki team, this is the "main key to achieving a true unlock". Considering that the team has already achieved 5 of the 6 self-set goals towards a fully unlocked iPhone, and have achieved a major milestone on the way to the 6th, it means they are almost there.
According to the team,"Just a couple of days ago we managed to extract the full content of the NOR memory (from the S-Gold2), which is the main key to achieving a true unlock. Releasing this dump would be of course illegal and risky, as it contains personal information and copyrighted code. That said, we're going to release the NOR Dumper binary to enable everyone else to continue working on the iPhone's unlocking. We'll release the source code at a later date when we feel it is mature enough to do so."
Stay tuned for more info regarding the iPhone Dev Wiki team's progress, as it looks like they're getting ever closer to a totally unhinged iPhone. If you're one of the people out there waiting for an unlocked iPhone, be sure to take the time to donate to the team via their PayPal account. Even if you can only spare a few dollars, every bit helps.
