It certainly comes as no surprise that Apple (AAPL) is selling plenty of iPhones. Just how many, however, may. According to Steve Jobs, speaking this morning during Apple's 2008 Macworld expo, Jobs announced that Apple has sold 4 million iPhones to date. That's right, 4 million. As today also marks the 200th day since the iPhone went on sale on June 29th 2007, that translates neatly into 20,000 iPhones sold every day.
With the relatively recent launch of the iPhone in many European countries such as the United Kingdom, France, and Germany - the iPhone sales figures have jumped even higher than the already boastful sales figures for the iPhone in the United States. Additionally, not worth ignoring are the iPhones sold to unlockers around the world. Apple has estimated that approximately 250,000 iPhones have been sold to those hoping to unlock the device.
In fact, according to Apple, they've already managed to grab second place in the smartphone market. Jobs announced during the keynote that Apple's 19.5% share of the smartphone market was bested only by RIM (39%), who makes Blackberry. This impressive feat places Apple ahead of both Pam and Motorola in the smartphone market after its firstfirst full quarter of sales figures.
