Spotlight on Apple mobile devices received a major upgrade with the launch of iOS 9. As usual, users can swipe down on the home screen to invoke Spotlight. With iOS 9 installed, a more detailed search screen can be displayed be swiping left to right. Spotlight provides everything from Siri app suggestions to news and specific search results by category, such as nearby food and shopping. Wouldn't it be great to have access to Spotlight from anywhere in iOS 9?
Those with jailbroken devices can install the tweak AnySpot to globalize Spotlight access. Calling up a search bar with proactive results can be linked to an Activator action. This means one gesture of your choice invokes Spotlight at any time. For example, Spotlight can be used directly when apps are running without quitting the app.
Animation speed can also be customized from the Advanced Options menu under settings. While the current version does not support Spotlight access from the lock screen, the developer has promised updates in the future.
AnySpot for iOS 9 requires the free tweak Activator and is available from Cydia for $2.99. To start customizing iOS, click here for instructions on how to jailbreak iOS 9 with Pangu. Find out how to purchase and install Cydia tweaks with this guide.
