Netflix continues to improve its iOS app, this time with version 8.0.0 hot off the presses. The latest brings 3D Touch support to the browsing menu, with show information accessible via Peek and Pop gestures. While Netflix does not have any Quick Actions available from the home screen, iPhone 6s users will enjoy the enhancements to browsing content. In addition to the requisite performance improvements, Netflix developers have added several new features.
What Netflix describes as the Post-Play experience is now available on iPhone. This means after a show or movie has finished playing, Netflix will automatically queue up the next episode or recommend similar content.
iPad watchers get some love in the 8.0.0 update, with a layout optimized to take advantage of the massive 12.9-inch display on the iPad Pro. The Kids screen has also been improved for all iPad users. Here's the complete list of changes posted yesterday:
- Post-Play experience (episode auto-play/recommendations) now on iPhone
- iPad Pro optimized layout
- 3D Touch support
- Improved Kids experience on iPad
- Arabic support for devices running iOS 9 and later
- Performance improvements
New customers can subscribe to Netflix directly from the iPhone, iPad or iPod touch via In-App Purchase. The company was recently in the news for its price increase on grandfathered streaming plans. This has not stopped Netflix from topping 75 million subscribers. The company expects to have over 80 million subscribers by the end of March, and will be expanding into 130 countries this year.
Netflix is free on iTunes, and requires iOS 8.0 or later and 37.8 MB of free space.
