In fact, Apple makes it possible to reserve an iPhone before taking the trip to a brick and mortar Apple Store for pickup. The iPhone 7 Plus has been in short supply, along with Jet Black models and the iPhone 7 with 128 GB of storage. So what's the best way to find out if the iPhone you want is in stock?
Apple Reservations
Apple lets customers look up and reserve the specific iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus they are seeking. Once connected to the Reserve and Pick Up page, the first step is to choose an Apple Store location.
Once the location has been confirmed as offering reservations, the iPhone 7 model and carrier can be selected. Apple's site is a great way to confirm the iPhone will actually be ready for pickup when you enter the store location to fulfill your reservation. Apple's reservation site updates inventory every day at midnight.
iStockNow LiveiStockNow.com features a live Google Map with Apple Store locations and their inventories. While the site delivers the same information as Apple's reservation system, it shows results visually. In addition to the map, which offers search filters and indicates stores that have the iPhone 7 or 7 Plus model in stock, individual stores can be selected. Choosing a store from the map displays a chart showing which models are currently available at the given location.
