The second update to iOS 10 has arrived. iOS 10.0.3 is targeted exclusively at the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. The release comes in advance of the highly anticipated iOS 10.1 update, which was just seeded in its fourth beta iteration to developers and public beta users. iOS 10.0.3 fixes a bug that has caused cellular connectivity problems for some users, initially discovered on the Verizon network.
Some Verizon customers complained of dropping LTE connections, with their iPhone 7 devices switching to slower speeds such as 3G. The issue affects all of the latest iPhone models, despite the fact that Verizon subscribers may have experienced the problem more often. In any case, iOS 10.0.3 (build 14A551) has been launched to correct these LTE issues across the iPhone 7 lineup. The update is available using iTunes on a computer or via an over-the-air (OTA) update.
iOS 10.0.3 is likely the last update to be released before the much-touted iOS 10.1 launch. The most significant change coming to iOS 10.1 may be the DSLR-like portrait mode, which makes it possible for iPhone 7 Plus users to snap professional-looking portraits. The new camera software will combine imagery from the standard and telephoto cameras on the back of the iPhone 7 Plus to provide a bokeh-like effect. This blurs the background significantly, leaving the subject in the foreground crystal clear.
iOS 10.0.3 is the second public update to Apple's latest mobile operating system. About a month ago, Apple launched iOS 10.0.2 to fix several minor bugs. One of the issues that was fixed involved Lightning EarPod headphones dropping their connection to the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus until they were unplugged and reconnected to the Lighting port. iOS 10.0.2 also fixed an iCloud Photo Library problem that caused the Photos app to prematurely quit.
Look for iOS 10.1 in the coming weeks. In the meantime, the iOS 10.0.3 update is recommended for all iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus users.
