Phillies fans can now order a beer right from their seats thanks to Apple's Business Chat. Aramark is testing its brew2you program at Citizens Bank Park. The automated beverage assistant could end up as the killer app for Business Chat, at least for sporting events. For now, the pilot program is limited to specific sections of the park during 10 home games.
Payment is made directly from Apple Pay, with no cash having to change hands or fumbling with change in the stands. For those lucky enough to participate in the pilot, available through August 5th, the process for ordering with brew2you goes like this:
- Open the iPhone Camera app
- Scan the QR code on the seat back
- Follow the prompts on the Messages text screen to place order
- Complete transaction with Apple Pay
- Enjoy the game while order is delivered to seat location
Carl Mittleman, President of Aramark’s Sports & Entertainment Division made the following statement in a press release:
We’re excited to be working with the Phillies and Apple to pilot this food and beverage delivery service. As fans’ expectations and behaviors change, Aramark continues to be on the forefront of introducing innovative, fan-friendly offerings to help transform the ballpark dining experience.
While some fans may be reluctant to use Messages to order liquid refreshment, rest assured that Apple has made Business Chat with built-in privacy protections. Your name and phone number are not shared with the company unless you choose to share it. Also, contact with Business Chat must be initiated by the user, not the company.
Time will tell what other creative applications are developed for iOS Business Chat.
