iOS 7.1.1 Brings Touch ID Improvements and Bug Fixes [Changelog]

Apple has released its first iOS update in over a month. iOS 7.1.1 brings "further improvements" to the Touch ID fingerprint recognition sensor on the iPhone 5s, and it fixes two keyboard bugs. The minor update is available now for the iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5, iPhone 4s and iPhone 4, iPad Air and iPad mini models.

iOS 7.1.1

iOS users can access the OTA update by navigating to Settings > General > Software Updates. You should avoid iOS 7.1.1 if you have a jailbroken device and want to keep it that way. Here's the very brief change log for the iOS 7.1.1:

Enable Auto HDR Mode on the iPhone 5s Camera

One of the many enhancements included with the recent iOS 7.1 update makes it easier for iPhone 5s owners to snap HDR photos. Leaving HDR on all the time means that in some cases, photos are not improved. Not only this, but saving both the normal and HDR versions of images can clog up the Camera Roll quickly and lead to time wasted deleting photos.

iPhone HDR photo auto

Apple has added a new, convenient way for iPhone 5s users to allow the Camera app to decide whether HDR is likely to improve the exposure of a scene. Once the iPhone is updated to iOS 7.1, the Camera will default to HDR Auto mode when first opened. A yellow box above the shutter release button will indicate when HDR mode is being used.

iOS 7.1 Now Available [Changelog]

Apple has released iOS 7.1 which brings a number of changes such as CarPlay support. Other new features include the ability to control Siri by holding down the Home button while you speak, the ability to purchase songs from the Now Playing section of iTunes Radio, a month view for the Calendar app, and a new Camera setting which automatically enables HDR for the iPhone 5s.

iOS 7.1 also adds some interface tweaks, faster animations and important bug fixes. You can read the complete release notes below. Users with jailbroken devices should avoid this update if they want to keep evasi0n7.

iOS 7.1 Beta 4 Release Notes

Apple has released iOS 7.1 beta 4 to developers this morning. The update is available OTA or via Apple's developer page. The update carries the build number 11D5134c. The fourth beta was released only a few weeks after iOS 7.1 beta 3 became available.

So far not many big changes have been reported. iDownloadblog has spotted a new slide to unlock animation, and new Siri voice options in the UK. There is also a bug fix for Messages that caused a send failure immediately after sending. Check out the complete iOS 7.1 beta 4 release notes below.

Last Chance to Jailbreak, Apple Releases iOS 7.1 Beta 3

Apple released iOS 7.1 beta 3 to developers on Tuesday. According to p0sixspwn creator iH8sn0w, the new release does not break the evad3rs latest jailbreak, but an unofficial version of evasi0n7 was needed to jailbreak the new beta. You can download that version here, but remember this tool was not released or sanctioned by the evad3rs and should be used with caution.

iOS 7.1 Beta 3

It is also a safe bet that Apple will patch evasi0n7 very soon, which means this could be the last chance users have to upgrade to iOS 7 and jailbreak their phones. Users still running iOS 6 will not be able to jailbreak once Apple closes the exploit, and there is a slim chance a new jailbreak will be released for any future versions of iOS 7.
