How can I fix my iPhone visual voicemail?

How can I fix my iPhone visual voicemail?

Some iPhone users may have noticed their visual voicemail stopped working after installing the 3.0 tethering hack. To check and see if you are not receiving your messages have someone leave you a message, then check voicemail manually.

To check voicemail dial your phone number directly from the iPhone. Press "1" to check messages. If you have voicemails waiting for you but no visual voicemail try this fix.

Navigate to your Settings. Touch Settings -> General -> Reset -> Reset Network Settings.

The iPhone will reboot and your visual voicemail should return to normal. This process resets the .ipcc (carrier settings) file that was altered in the tethering hack. Turns out the tethering hack has a side effect of disabling visual voicemail in this file.

On top of the resetting your network settings, be sure to delete any strange looking AT&T profiles that have been created since Jail breaking your phone. Either under "general" or "phone" settings menu.

Check your data plan. It may say without visual voicemail. Mine was changed some how.

visual voicemail is mainly caused by a tethering hack, and it's best to access the voicemail box by calling your own number, or just go to: Settings > General > Reset and hit the Reset Network Settings button.

Chris - Thanks alot this resolve the visual voicemail issue I had. Thank You Gail

tried to reset network did not work what else can I try

Thanks that worked.

You are awesome thank u

My voicemail will not work at all when u call my number it says we can't complete your call. Please help

I am writing to try to help folks. I had the same visual voicemail issues as many users. When I received an iPhone 6, visual voicemail did not work. I was sure it wasn't user error, since everything else worked fine in the transition from my iPhone 4 -- I've also had an iPhone second generation and first generation.

So I called AT&T support. I spent 20 minutes talking to someone who was very nice but I later realized was just there to route calls. He passed me to someone who had technical expertise but not enough. That guy, who also was courteous and patient (to his credit; they train well), made it worse. His suggestion set off voicemail altogether.

I myself figured out how to reset the voicemail.

Anyway, I poked around on various internet forums. This problem is not uncommon.

Here is what happened for me. The guy from tech support actually turned out not to be wrong. He said maybe give it 24 hours. That didn't work. But 48 hours -- that did it. Two days later, visual voicemail just appeared.

It might be just time needed to activate.

I had the same problem with visual voice mail and tried all of the suggested resets over 3 times each, including changing the voice mail passcode on AT&T's web site (as well as over the iPhone). Nothing worked, but I decided to wait several days before doing anything else. It took more than 48 hours, over 4 days, but it then started working again (as mysteriously as it had stopped working). Before doing all of this online research for an answer, I spent an hour at an AT&T store. They took it up to "Tier 2" support (i.e. they called their tier 2 tech support), who also reset things at his end, and made a couple of test calls to my iPhone, but without it working. They then suggested I take it to the nearest Apple store. I didn't have much faith that they could fix it either, which is why I decided to wait several days. (I at least knew I could demand a warranty replacement - not that the new phone might not have the same problem if it was indeed, as it seems, an AT&T glitch.)

I also called AT&T and they discovered my old phone was still on the account. The support person fixed it while I waited. If you are on AT&T it's worth a call to ask them if there is an IMEI issue with your account. THey'll know what that means.

The Reset Network Settings advice worked for me. Thanks.

Try using YouMail. I use it instead of the iPhone voicemail and it is so convenient. I can check my voicemails from the app on my phone or see them all online like I am checking my email. You can also set different greetings for different contacts.

The process described above did not work with the iPhone 6 Plus. Does anyone else have a solution?

That did not work for me. But for iphone 6plus or iphone 7 plus what DID WORK was to:
GO TO SETTINGS, phone, CHANGE VOICEMAIL PASSWORD, then enter in a new 4 digit passcode!!

This is what finally worked for me as well. Thanks for the suggestion.

This worked great!! Thanks so much!!

I had the visual voicemail disappear from my Iphone 5s (shortly after the latest IOS update). I did the network reset suggested above without success. I called my carrier (ATT) and through the automated phone service, I reset the voicemail password (I recorded a new custom message). The visual voicemail showed up on my phone (just had to enter the newly created password and selected the custom voicemail message tab), and I was back to normal again. The process took about 3 minutes.

I have an IPhone 5, had no visual voicemail after update 9.0 installed last week. Tried Reset Network Settings, change Voicemail password, toggle Airplane mode switch on then off, hard reset, nothing worked, BUT I HAVE THE SOLUTION! Once 9.0 is in effect, Cellular must be turned on in your Settings section for Visual Voicemail to be rec'd. Even if you are connected to WIFI, you must have Cellular switch "on"..good news, it doesn't count against your "minutes" in your data plan

Thank you so much for your suggestion to turn on cellular data. I used to keep it off, as I use wifi only. I recently updated to 9.1 on my iphone 4s and couldn't get voicemail. Thanks to you, now I can again!

This solution did not work for me. I spent about 7 or 8 hours on the phone today with Apple Show Me the Money Support without resolution. I also called Straight talk trac phone. Again, no solution. All this started after I installed iOS 7 and got worse after I activated iCloud, something I'd been resisting.

I think the telecommunications gods are waging some kind of vendetta against me. I will never buy another Apple product and when my minutes run out in December I'm going back to Verizon. Thanks for posting what is a great solution for everyone but Karen. (Shaking fist at the gods)

I tried all of the "reset" suggestions, multiple times, and none of them worked. The only thing that worked was logging to my AT&T account, online - not via the iPhone, and requesting a voicemail pin reset. A temporary pin was texted to my iPhone. I pressed the "voicemail" icon on my phone & it requested a new pin (twice) & my visual voicemail was restored immediately.

Thank you so much for this tip! Visual voicemail restored!

Thank you!!! I tried all the other solutions, even everything posted on the Apple and AT&T pages and nothing worked. Your solution worked brilliantly for me. So glad I read the comments to find it.

THANK YOU!!! This worked! Nothing else suggested worked.

Finally! The AT&T online password reset worked. I had tried resetting it on the phone and resetting the network with no luck prior. Thanks

Phone call to AT&T was a waste of time. Visit to the Apple store lost all recent photos and still didn't help. Gina's reset password trick... worked like a charm.

This was the only solution that worked for me. Thank you very much

Ginia, you are a lifesaver!! That worked for me as well :)

Request VM password reset VIA myat&t online account website and have the reset texted to your phone. Press VM button and it will prompt for the new password. Visual Voicemail restored!

STILL not working. I have completed ALL the above steps with voicemail still only "calling" my voicemail rather than taking to visual voicemail list. Arghh!
