HBO today has officially ended its exclusive deal with Apple by updating its NOW iOS app with Chromecast support. Version 1.2.0 of the HBO NOW app allows Chromecast users to cast HBO original series, movies, comedy specials, documentaries and more to their television sets. Originally HBO NOW subscribers could only stream HBO NOW programing using Apple devices, such as an iPad or Apple TV.
The HBO NOW has also been updated with push notification support, and it has received some performance improvements. The HBO NOW with Chromecast is available for free on the Apple App Store. An HBO NOW subscription is $14.99 and can be purchased within the app or through hbonow.com. The first 30-days of the service is free.
The HBO NOW website also notes that Amazon fireTV and fireTV stick support is "coming soon".
Chromecast is a small dongle that connects to your TV via HDMI port. It allows users to stream or "cast" television shows anbd movies from Chromecast supported apps, such as Netflix and YouTube. The Chromecast dongle is available from Amazon.com and other big retailers such as Target and Best Buy.
