There is no shortage of lock screen tweaks for those with jailbroken devices. For anyone looking to conveniently launch apps directly from the lock screen, AppBox 9 is worth a look. AppBox 9 updates the versatile tweak for iOS 9 devices, with the developer offering a free upgrade to existing users. Once installed, the default setup is ready to go. Besides the quick launch function, AppBox offers App Views to easily use key app features in a pop-up window. There are several settings and configuration options to customize the lock screen.
First of all, there is an option to automatically enter a passcode. If a passcode is set, the auto-unlock option is the only way to bypass a passcode when launching specific apps with AppBox. This enables speed, but depending on which apps are available to launch from the lock screen it could open up sensitive information to others. In any case, apps can be dragged and rearranged in settings to determine how they appear on the lock screen. Appearance can also be customized, including labels, badges, icon size, and even the elements visible on the lock screen itself.
App Views are enabled on specific apps under the Plugins section of settings, including Contacts, Notes, Playlists, and Weather. Holding down on one of these app icons will open a pop-up window immediately. This makes it possible to do things such as quickly compose a new note without even opening the Notes app.
AppBox 9 (iOS 9) is available from Cydia for $1.50. Existing users can upgrade for free. To start customizing iOS, click here for instructions on how to jailbreak iOS 9 with Pangu. Find out how to purchase and install Cydia tweaks with this guide.
