By now you have probably heard the rumor that the iPhone 7 will not include a headphone jack. If the reports are true, this means the current EarPods that ship with all iPhone models will not be supported by Apple's next-generation headset. The iPhone-maker is allegedly developing a new set of Bluetooth Beats earphones that will ship alongside the iPhone 7, according to 9to5Mac.
Citing unnamed sources, 9to5Mac claims the new Beats accessory will be completley wireless like Bragi’s newly launched Dash headphones. The new Apple earphones will include a noise-cancelling microphone system for answering calls and communicating with Siri. It is unknown how users will accept calls or invoke Siri, but 9to5Mac suggests that the earphones could include some kind of built-in button like Apple's current Earpod models.
Apple will reportedly offer "different sized ear sleeves" so the new earbuds will fit easily into differently shaped ears.
9to5Mac also noted that Apple recently registered the trademark "AirPods". This could be the name of the new earphones that Apple is developing.
This is good news for the few thousand people who signed a petition asking Apple not to ditch the standard headphone jack on its next device. These iPhone users are worried that they will need to "dole out additional cash to replace their hi-fi headphones." At least now they know that the iPhone 7 will most likely be paired with a compatible pair of high-end Beats earphones when it launches later this year.
