Not too long ago, app icons on the iPhone home screen were frozen in time. The latest version of iOS delivers an animated clock, which displays the real time down to the seconds. The jailbreak tweak Meteor delivers weather information in a similar fashion, with the latest conditions available at a glance. Not only is the Weather app icon transformed, but current weather appears on the status bar as well.
Once installed, Meteor offers some configuration options under Settings. First of all, the update interval can be changed. By default, Meteor will update the Weather icon every 30 minutes. A series of toggles make it possible to customize the status bar and icon displays. Each item can be switched off as well, with a master toggle available to deactivate Meteor entirely and restore the default Weather icon. Settings require a respring to take effect.
When it comes to location, Meteor will automatically display weather info from the first card in the Weather app. This can be based on current location or set to a fixed place name. There's also a toggle to use Local Weather. Changing the first card in the Weather app will immediately update the display.
Meteor is $1.99 on the Cydia app store. To start customizing iOS, click here for instructions on how to jailbreak iOS 9 with Pangu. Find out how to purchase and install Cydia tweaks with this guide.
