The official MLB.com iOS app has been updated to take advantage of rich notifications in iOS 10. Rich notifications allows users to view photos, videos and respond to messages directly from the Notification Center. Users of the MLB.com At Bat can now watch video highlights in the Notification Center by using 3D Touch. This means you need an iPhone 6s or later to utilize the new "enhanced notifications" feature in version 9.5.0 of the app.
To watch a video in your notifications just lightly press and hold the notification in the Notification Center. You can also press harder to open the video in the app.
The Today section in the app now allows you to access scores and schedules for your favorite teams. The release notes also mention the addition of individual team sticker packs for the Messages app, but there doesn't seem to be a way to add them to your app drawer.
MLB.com At Bat is available for free on the App Store, but you will need to buy one of the subscription options to access all the premium features. An MLB At Bat subscription grants you the ability to watch and listen to live games, view clips and replays with no blackout restrictions and more. You can see a complete list of premium features in the description section on the App Store. There is also a Lite version that allows you to access scores, schedules, news and more.
The new updated arrived just in time for the 2016 MLB playoffs which kick off with the AL wild-card game on Tuesday, Oct. 4. Non-subscribers can purchase a monthly subscription to MLB.com At Bat to catch all the upcoming playoff action for a recurring fee of $2.99.
