One of the more useful built-in features of iOS is the dictionary. Looking up words on the iPhone is easy with a long press or by using 3D Touch. Since the launch of iOS 12, Apple has added a new feature to the built-in dictionary. Users can quickly access a thesaurus as well. This makes it possible to find similar words or synonyms that are related to the target word.
To activate the thesaurus and include thesaurus results whenever a word is looked up on the iOS screen, follow these steps:
- Navigate to Settings -> General
- Tap Dictionary
- Select the Oxford American Writer's Thesaurus, a blue check will appear
- Now when using Look Up, thesaurus results will appear with dictionary results
Once the thesaurus is enabled on iOS 12 and later, thesaurus results will appear whenever a word is looked up. Depending on the app, the thesaurus words may appear at the top of the screen, or underneath other results, such as the dictionary or Siri suggested sites.
