iPhone Jailbreaking

Ever notice how your iPhone reverts to a black background every time you plug it in to charge? Jailbreakers now have the option to continue displaying their lock screen background wallpaper thanks to a tweak called ChargingBackground.

Once installed, iOS will stop displaying the black background behind the green battery meter. You can find the package in Cydia under Sections -> Tweaks or use the Search function to find the title. ChargingBackground is free and has no settings to configure at all.

For those iOS users who have been enjoying the 5.1.1 jailbreak in a tethered state, you can now convert your jailbreak to untethered without restoring your device. This means no more booting connected to a computer with redsn0w.

iOS 5.1.1 tethered jailbreakers with the iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPod touch 3rd and 4th generation, and original iPad can take advantage of the Rocky Racoon package on Cydia. For those with A5 devices including the iPad 2, iPad 3 and iPhone 4S, you can now jailbreak untethered with Absinthe 2.0.

Windows users can enjoy the same quick untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.1.1 devices as those with Apple computers. Absinthe 2.0 is here thanks to the efforts of Chronic Dev Team. Once jailbroken, your iOS device is free to install software from third-party developers distributed outside of the App Store.

The latest installment of Absinthe is here, making it possible to jailbreak most devices running iOS 5.1.1, including the new iPad. Jailbreaking with Absinthe 2.0 only takes a few minutes thanks to all of the hard work put in by the Chronic Dev Team. The software is available for both Mac OS X and Windows computers.

Running an app full screen on your iPhone can be great, until you accidentally swipe down from the top of the screen and bring up Notification Center. Interruptions like this can now be prevented thanks to a jailbreak tweak called DisableNC Switch.

The tweak is simple; once installed it adds a toggle switch under Settings -> DisableNC Switch which will turn off the Notification Center switch when full screen apps are active. Even though the switch will appear, the full Notification Center is prevented from covering up the screen.
