Though it would have been better if SpoofApp had been around for April Fools' Day, there's still plenty of uses we can think of to fake (or "spoof") your caller ID. Yes, most of these are for reasons involving practical jokes. Not all, though, there are definitely legitimate uses for spoofing your caller ID -- everything ranging from conducting business from the road to checking in on your kids. So, when one of our readers wrote in about SpoofApp, we thought we'd spread the word.
SpoofApp is a native application for the Apple iPhone that lets callers pretend they are calling from a phone number other than the one they are actually calling from. It's dead simple to use, also. Once you've installed SpoofApp, you simply enter your Spoof Card details, the number you want to call, and the number you want to appear you're calling from -- and hit "Call". The person receiving the call will see the incoming call from whatever number you specified!
Here are a few suggested uses:
1) Think your boyfriend/girlfriend is cheating on you? Call from the suspected mistress' phone number and see how he answers the phone.2) Want to check in on your kids, but don't want them dodging your calls? Call from a number you know they'll answer.
3) One of your co-workers avoiding your calls? Call from the boss' number.
4) Call a landline from popular known phone numbers and have the receiver see the name displayed with the number.
Your ideas are probably better than mine. But, play nice!

Anyway, to use SpoofApp, you have to do two things: 1) install SpoofApp and 2) get a SpoofCard with minutes (yes, this isn't free, although it is very inexpensive).
Here are some brief instructions on how to install SpoofApp via Installer (from SpoofApp.com).
1) Launch Installer
2) Install Jiggy Runtime from the Development category
3) Install SpoofApp from the Toys category
4) Launch SpoofApp and press the Settings button at the top
5) Enter your Spoof Card details
6) Enter the number you want to call and the ID you want to fake and hit Call
The Spoof Card also lets you change your voice and disguise it as a man, a woman. Have fun, and remember, don't do anything you wouldn't want someone to do to you.
You can buy a Spoof Card and minutes and get your Spoof Card PIN number by clicking here.

My family is getting creepy threats on the message service, and they're not funny at all. Furthermore, they're made to appear as if we ourself are the caller. I would very much like to find out who's doing it to us, and make it stop.
Does anyone know how this is done?
Thx,
J

this app is not by any means a joke! This is a fkn stalkers dream app! it defeats the purpose of being able to block a number. It completely underminds parental controls and puts innocent children and people in general at risk. It is not fun for the person being stalked! What ever dumb fuck created this app should rethink what they have exposed people too.

This is a horrible App and it should not be available... I have people harassing me using this app and calling other people using my phone number which in return has them calling me and getting mad. This is not a app that should be available. I'm going to press harassment charges on someone and this app has helped them harass me. Just crappy!!

This app is not funny or cool in anyway. I just got called from a number I did not recognize and they said how are u and then they asked how my daughter (her name) shes 2 how she was. Then when i asked who they were they said they were the mother fucking devil. oh yea that is so hilarious. how about distroying this app and any other apps like this. I call the number back to confront them and its a woman that has no idea what I was talking about. I ended up calling the police they called her and he said he knew it wasnt her for sure and it was an app that changed whoever it was phone number. This should be illegal police have no way of getting ahold of the real person. REAL SMART PEOPLE!

I can't believe there is a app to do this. We kept getting calls from people wanting to know why we keep calling them, but we didn't. Some of the people are really pissed, I have to explain that our name and number on caller id was stolen. They don't believe me at first, so I take the time to explain to them, which is very annoying for them and us. If this company is smart enough to create this app then they should be smart enough to create a way to trace who is using your caller id. They should be held accountable when its no longer funny. Who ever is using our id is asking personal information from the people they are calling. The ones I have talked to don't give it out, but I wonder how many they are fooling and get personal information from them, and then if they use their personal information will these people come back on me? I reported this to FCC and local police, but there is nothing they can do. They suggest I change my phone number, I am raising my grandkids, they have been with me now for 10 yrs, do you know how many places and people I would have to contact to let them know I have had to change my phone number? I have had the same number for 30 yrs, this is ridiculous, and I will not stop until I can get something done to get the a-holes behind this.

It's interesting the mixed reaction towards this iPhone app. I can see how it would be used for the good and for the bad. They had one on shark tank that did similar things and apparently it was a huge area of interest for all the investors.
I'll definetly have to try it out on my iPhone, we have an iPhone repair shop (http://www.iquerepair.com) across Utah and this app would be very helpful for us to make phone calls. I'd use it for the good!

BAD BAD APP

incredibly dangerous!
This is incredibly dangerous.
My iphone, I recently discovered contains spyware, and the smoking-gun proof was, after a string of incoming calls from obviously spoofed numbers, i also found OUTGOING calls to some of the numbers, in my call log, all made while the phone was not in use, while I was alone & sleeping, not near the phone. (This relates to the spoofing app, but please bear with me and sorry this is long; I will address why...)
This was after YEARS of online impersonation by a stalker/nutcase former-supervisor (a person who has full access to my personnel file including SSN etc) who retaliated against me, at first by mobbing/bullying me out of my job with lies and rumours, and blatantly false accusations of frightening things, then destroying my life via online impersonation and digital-stalking/tech-tactics, all after I reported her, before things escalated to criminal levels.
I reported her to multiple authorities at work, where I was a stellar employee with zero reprimands. But to no avail; then as things became worse, and supporters fell away fearing similar repurcussions of this toxic environment, and wrath of this covert-psychopath , I attempted to escape the abuse the only way zi could: by giving up my job, assuming the cycle of abuse would then STOP. But no, technology was used to ESCALATE abuse, and give this nutcase more control (and the front-row-seat she craved to my suffering, and a window into the fear and despair that my life now is, every waking moment); iphone spyware.
Whether phone number spoofing was used BEFORE, or AFTER she compromised my iphone with spyware, I don't know;
but the calls incoming to me were from spoofed numbers.
And then some outgoing (via mobile phone spyware allowing the stalker to control my phone) were to people and entities I know would help make me appear a pervert and crazy person ...
The calls were consistent with themes she repeated in impersonation content for years; terrible topic matter I can't bear to even say. The numbers mapped to names/locations seemingly in line with her 2+ year defamation/impersonation efforts; a horrible false-reality of my identity she built, via online impersonations of me, in porn and adult-content sites and topic matter, and as me threatening violence to colleagues etc.
So this may not sound very clear because I am unsure how to explain all this in context, and don't know for certain what ELSE she did with phone spoofing, since she called my phone via some app or website that spoofs numbers TO me. Thus I can only guess she used similar tactic/app to call others AS me. Also, via spyware (separately) she actually caused these numbers to appear OUTGOING FROM ME in my call log, thus made FROM my phone, but by her.
I suppose spyware was an escalation of the use of apps like this, to harass others as me, then make sure at least SOME activity she actually did, could be found in my actual call logs.
Whatever "good" uses an app like this has, I can only imagine the bad uses comprise the vast majority.
Learning about the existence of phone spoofing, and spending the past 8 months trying to understand the spyware, and how it infected my phone (multistep process at first involving stealing data via bluetooth, then using xss on one of her impersonated blogs she knew I'd visit, to collect evidence, unwittingly downloading her malicious obfuscated scripts to my pc and/or ios devices, then her use of a spoofed number, which did show up in my call log as just under 2hrs, to call my iphone to then activate the spyware via an auth code... this attempt to apply an activation code also showed up in my call log when she initially entered it wrong) .
Thus my realization of the combined damage that this person can do to me (and my husband she also impersonated online & ran him out of our workplace) ... the damage she is capable of, panics me.
It is devastating to consider, with all that combined, including the 30-40 online impersonations of us, plus her playing-victim to our former workplace, friends, colleagues, authorities etc (all who won't help because they assume I am the stalker; they think complaints about us were lodged by our neighbors, anonymously, which no doubt, was just her calling the police to "report" us, from SPOOFED NUMBERS mapped to my neighborhood -- and yes I saw her drive by 3x -- when these "complaints" were made, we are just sitting at home watching TV!!) All this scares the heck out of me.
I could be arrested, and even incarcerated, for the actions this perp is doing, pretending to be me!
My credibility is already destroyed; I'm shunned and isolated, and people fear that I am a "threst"... so who would even believe me?
The ONLY good that may come of this type of app, is if perhaps records could be subpoenaed to authorities to stop criminals like her, who do incredibly dangerous and illegal things, to destroy victims like us.

Will the cell phone you are calling show the spoofed phone number or the real phone number that is actually making the call on the bill?

I just learned of this app last night under terrifying circumstances. I received a call on my friends phone from (what appeared to be) my Dad's cell phone at a very late hour. I was immediately alarmed due to the time of the call and confused as to why he would be calling on my friends phone (of which my Dad doesn't even know the phone number). When I answered the phone their was distorted carnival music playing in the background and the caller, who had a frighteningly low man's voice said very slowly "is (enter friend's name) there?" It scared me horribly because it most definitely was NOT my Dad and I dropped the phone in a desperate panic, crying out of fear. My friend grabbed the phone and dialed the number back and quite shockingly my Dad answered, now quite concerned and also confused because he didn't call nor did anyone else have access to his phone. After I could pull myself together enough to think logically, I was able to put 2 and 2 together and then through a brief process of elimination it became crystal clear what had happened and who it was on the other end of the line. What scares me the most is that the real caller was from a person whom I have a restraining order against and because of this so-called "prank" app, I have no way to prove it or even protect myself from this person's continued harassment. I am beyond enraged that this app has so-easily taken away my rights to safety and protection as a victim of harassment and has carelessly placed the control back into my abusers hands only to allow them to now harass me anonymously! This app is not a child's game of prank calling IT'S AN OPEN PLAYGROUND FOR ABUSERS AND A VERY REAL AND DANGEROUS THREAT TO VICTIMS!

The reason I looked this up in the first place is because my daughters controlling boyfriend was calling people with my daughters number acting like she was still with him and using it to contact her friends and acquaintences to start trouble. So they believed she was okay for him to be calling from supposedly her phone. Ruining her new relationships. I believe it is a invasion of peoples privacy to be acting like their calling from your phone. A lot of damage can be done. He's called my phone from her number however she was sitting right next to me when he called and her phone was in her hand we were totally confused, and thought oh my he's hacked into her phone somehow. The problems this could cause is too numerous. Peoples lives could be ruined, like what happens when he calls her job from her phone number. I think it should be illegal.
