A number of users have reported an inability to install Summerboard after jailbreaking firmware 1.1.4. With Summerboard being one of the most popular third party applications for the iPhone, many iPhone owners will be glad to hear a solution is at hand.
An iPhoneFAQ reader, Cherubsan, sent in the following instructions which allow those running jailbroken 1.1.4 to install Summerboard via Installer.app. As with all instructions related to jailbroken or unlocked iPhones, proceed at your own risk:
2. Refresh sources in Installer
3. Navigate to Tweaks (1.1.4)
4. Install 1.1.4 Summerboard Patch
5. Install Summerboard
6. Uninstall 1.1.4 Summerboard Patch
Reportedly the patch just tells Installer that your firmware version is 1.1.4 instead of 1.1.3 so that Installer will not refuse to install Summerboard. As 1.1.4 is a bugfix release, no known compatibility issues with Summerboard for 1.1.3 are expected.
If you have success or a lackthereof when using this workaround, please post your experiences here.

Summerboard is the only app I would miss with 1.1.4. With this fix, was easily able to install summerboard on Jailbroken 1.1.4 iPhone. Thanks guys! Great job!

Seems to work but it is not perfect. I try to install themes from ModMyiFone (under "Themes (Summerboard)") but it doesnt seem to show up in the theme section of the summerboard program. However, when installing a theme from a different source, such as iSpazio, it shows up and works just fine.

True. I've been playing with it for a while and definetly noticed that many of the themes aren't working. They correctly download, but do not show up in the Themes part of SMBPrefs...

Every time I try to download this source, it always says "invalid source". Why is this happening?

I am a noob to this... how to do I "navigate to iSapazio?"
Joo replied on Permalink
Stop being lazy.....if you scroll up and read you will know how to add ispazio as a source.

lazy?? The question was not how do I add... I did that. It didn't show up for a while after I did add it so I thought I did something wrong. If only some day I could be as savvy with iphone hacking as you...

I found unlock tools, but I don't see 1.1.4 Summerboard patch. It's not anywhere on the list. Any ideas?
Anonymous replied on Permalink
same problem, i found ispazio unlock tools, but none are in there for summerboard.
:/
help?
Anonymous replied on Permalink

You can also use this Summerboard Patch in between other 1.1.3 Apps you want to install on 1.1.4.
If you updated to the new Summerboard you may loose the patch of your list. So look in Spazio's Unlocking tools for the "1,1,4 Compatibility Patch". Use the same method. Install the patch.....Install the 1.1.3 App that says it would not install because its looking for 1.1.3 firmware. With this patch installed first....it will now install. After uninstall the patch.
Thats it. Repeat tis process for other 1.1.3 Apps that would not normally install on 1.1.4.

I upgraded from 1.1.2 jailbreak to 1.1.4 jailbreak via hackintosh method- When I use 1.1.4 Compatibility patch Installer is still exiting abruptly. Does it matter that I never had 1.1.3? and if so, how do I correct that?
Anonymous replied on Permalink
Bullshit there is no such fix as "Summerboard Patch" don't waste peoples time with bullshit! Besides Summerboard installs it just doesn't work!

How do I add/var/root/bin to my PATH?
JD replied on Permalink
You need to edit /etc/profile and add it to the existing string for $PATH there.
Then logout and log back in. It will be in your $PATH then.

I installed summerboad separately because I couldn't figure out how to navigate to tools after adding the ispazio source. Any ideas? I just ended up downloading summerboard without it but it lags and drains the battery is that because I didnt follow the directions or is that just how summerboard is?

The link has been changed, you need to go to http://labs.ispazio.net
So, you need to do the following:
1. Goto Sources, tap on 'Edit' at the top, tap on 'Add'
2. Add http://labs.ispazio.net
3. Refresh Sources
4. Tap on 'Install', Select 'iSpazio Laboratory' category and install the package...
Enjoy and have fun...
I dont know why anyone did not mention these steps above, it took me some time to figure this out.
