The Apple store is down internationally, as Apple updates its store to get ready for the US pre-order of the iPad. Starting at 8:30 AM EDT, prospective customers will be able to order the WiFi-only and 3G capable versions of the Apple's hotly anticipated tablet. Today's pre-ordering is open to US customers only. The WiFi-only iPad is slated for arrival in stores and homes on April 3rd, with 3G models arriving later in the month.
For a full rundown of all the important pre-order details, answers to frequently asked questions (FAQ), and more, visit The iPad Guide's article iPad Pre-Ordering: Important Details.
The Apple store is down internationally, and customers outside the US who are slated to receive the iPad next (U.K., Canada, France, Germany, Australia, Italy, Japan, Spain and Switzerland) are hoping that their refreshed Apple stores will include pricing and pre-order information for their countries, which Apple execs have been overseas negotiating this week.
Some surveys have reported that consumer demand for the iPad is higher than first iPhone at the time of its release, while some analysts are predicting sluggish initial sales figures for the device. One thing's for sure, we'll know shortly.

Looks like the store is up and running. I am tempted to order one now but feel like I should wait until the next model comes out with a camera, and whatever else. I hope I don't cave in before then. It's possible.

A lot of people, like myself, are waiting for Amazon to have it in stock so that we can save a few bucks on tax and get some accessories!
You can use an online tracker, like zoolert to keep tabs on it :
