Apple has released a Windows-only iTunes update, bringing the software to version 12.1.1. The update primarily fixes a list of bugs, including audio playback issues and Outlook syncing problems. Improved compatibility with screen readers is another change touted in the release notes.
Windows and Mac users received the 12.1 update three weeks ago, which added a Notification Center widget for OS X Yosemite. Apple has not updated iTunes for OS X since then. When it comes to iTunes 12, the jump from 11 brought significant changes to Apple's flagship entertainment package.
iTunes 12 features many powerful media playback, device management, and organizational tools. Some of the newest additions to the software include:
- Dedicated icons for switching media types
- Full music library and playlists side-by-side
- List view
- Easier device management
- Redesigned Get Info
- The MiniPlayer
- Account information accessible from anywhere
- Recently added section
This update addresses an issue that may cause audio playback to stutter, fixes a problem with syncing contacts and calendars from Outlook to iOS devices, and improves compatibility with screen readers.
iTunes 12.1.1 is freely available from the Apple iTunes website in both 32-bit and 64-bit versions. Windows system requirements to install and run iTunes 12.1.1 are as follows:
Newest iPhone FAQs
- 400MB of available disk space
- Broadband Internet connection to use the iTunes Store
- PC with a 1GHz Intel or AMD processor and 512MB of RAM
- Windows XP Service Pack 3 or later, 32-bit editions of Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
