After deciding that some of the mobile titles in their catalog no longer met SEGA standards, the company released a list if games that would no longer be supported on the Apple App Store, Google Play Store, the Samsung App Store and the Amazon App Store. The discontinued titles are mainly ports of Genesis games. Here's the list via Touch Arcade:
- Streets Of Rage
- Streets Of Rage 3
- Phantasy Star 2
- Afterburner Climax
- Super Monkey Ball
- Super Monkey Ball 2: Sakura Edition
- Golden Axe
- Golden Axe 2
- Golden Axe 3
- Virtua Fighter 2
- Space Harrier 2
- Altered Beast
- Ecco The Dolphin
- Columns Deluxe
The games are still there for those who previously purchased them and need to re-download them, but they will no longer be updated.
While most game enthusiast are probably sad to see any video game go, a lot of the SEGA Genesis titles did not port well to iOS and was giving other titles a bad name. SEGA did mention that some of the title may come back, but it is doubtful. Perhaps some of the charterers, like good old Ecco the Dolphin, will come back in new titles, or some of the games will be released as part of an emulator. At least all the Sonic games survived the cut.
