Siri on iPhone 4: Beware the H1Siri Jailbreak App

If installing full Siri functionality on the iPhone 4 sounds too good to be true, that's because it is. A new software package claiming to make Siri run on a jailbroken iPhone 4 has appeared on a repository that Cydia warns against. The package is called H1Siri, and there are a few reasons why you should stay away.

Not only does the repository containing H1Siri contain cracks and other illegal software, but the package itself comes from an unknown developer. Apparently a Chinese group dubbed CD-Dev Team is behind the Siri port, but the software illegally uses parts of Apple's copyrighted code.

Downgrade to iOS 5.0 With iFaith v1.4 [Jailbreak]

Apple isn't playing nice with the jailbreaking community and has recently started blocking devices from restoring to older firmware. If you accidently updated to 5.0.1 and want to restore your device, hacker iH8sn0w has a new solution for you. iFaith v1.4 allows you to save your iOS device’s SHSH blobs which should allow you to downgrade your device in the future.

Unfortunately it doesn't support A5 devices. Meaning if you recently purchased an iPhone 4S, or upgraded to iOS 5.0.1, you're still out of luck for now. A4 owners are being urged by the jailbreaking community to download the latest update of iFaith and to save their SHSH blobs immediately.

iOS 5.1 Breaks iPhone Home Screen Settings Toggles

If you're one of the many iPhone users who has created home screen shortcuts for individual Settings on your device, you might want to skip the iOS 5.1 update. The first beta of iOS 5.1 has been seeded to developers, and the loophole that allowed this shortcut trick is now closed.

This is unfortunate for iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S users (and some 3GS owners) who are waiting patiently for an untethered jailbreak solution for their devices. Shortcuts to individual settings on the iPhone home screen saves time and effort scrolling through several menus to change one item, such as turning on Airplane Mode or switching off Location Settings.

iPhone Crash Reporter Helps iOS Jailbreak Efforts

The cat and mouse game between Apple and jailbreakers never stops. Chronic Dev Team announced they had already found several exploits that could possibly be used in a future iOS 5 jailbreak, however Apple quickly patched these exploits before the public release of the firmware. One of Apple's weapons in the arsenal against jailbreaking is the log of crash reports that is automatically sent from iTunes that serves to identify possible exploits.

Chronic Dev Team is trying to stop Apple from finding out about these potential jailbreak opportunities by circumventing the automatic crash reports from iOS. Efforts to complete an untethered iOS 5 jailbreak are in progress, and Chronic Dev is asking for everyone's help to keep potential exploits away from Apple.

Jailbreak iOS 5 / iOS 5.0.1 With Ac1dSn0w

The beta version of Ac1dSn0w is here. So what is it? PwnDevTeam has released Ac1dSn0w as an alternative tool to jailbreak Apple devices running iOS 5, including the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS and first generation iPad. The software also jailbreaks the 4th generation iPod touch and runs on Mac OS X Lion and Snow Leopard.

Like other jailbreak tools including Pwnage Tool, redsn0w and sn0wbreeze, Ac1dSn0w provides a tethered jailbreak solution for devices running iOS 5 or 5.0.1. Currently the software does not create custom firmware packages, however several features are available in the current version.
