New iOS Games, Apps and JB Tweaks of the Week: First Look at Family Guy Mobile Game

It was kind of a slow week for Apple App Store releases, so here is an early look at TinyCo's upcoming Family Guy game for mobile devices. TinyCo did not release any new details since its initial announcement, but the developer did release two screenshots that gives us a good look at what to expect from the game.

Family Guy for mobile devices is a resource management game which promises to keep the same "nothing's sacred and nothing's safe" policy as the television show. No release date has been announced.

iOS App of the Week: Square Cash - Easily Send and Request Money on Your iPhone

The money transferring app Square Cash has recently added the ability to request money from an individual or group using any iOS device. The new feature makes it easy for users to collect money from large groups such as fantasy football entry fees or dues for community clubs or events. It is also a good way to avoid awkward conversations with people who owe you money, an easy way to pay large group dinner bills, or a way for parents to transfer money to college students.

Using Square Cash is as easy as composing an email. Just open the app, select the amount of money you want to request or send, then add an email address, and Square Cash will do the rest. The money will be automatically deposited to your bank account within 1-2 business days after the recipients pay.

New Apple Patent Puts Motion Sensor in iPhone

Titled "Imaging Range Finder Fabrication" at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, Apple's new patent application describes a range finder comprised of a lens and an array of emitters and photodetectors in "optical communication with the lens." The device would "be incorporated into ... a mobile phone, digital media player, or a personal computer."

According to the text, the array of emitters would emit light that would be directed by the iPhone's lens toward an object. The light bouncing back off the object would pass back through the lens and be received by the photodetectors in the array. With

First Look at iOS 8 and Apple's New Healthbook App

A few screenshots of Apple's iOS 8 have popped up on the the Chinese forum WeiPhone, and 9to5Mac claims to have verified the authenticity of the images. The screenshots reveal the icon for Apple's rumored Heathbook app, which is supposed to tie-in with the company's long rumored iWatch.

The Healthbook app is Apple's attempt to tap into the popular world of mobile healthcare and fitness. The new iOS 8 feature is a lot like Samsung's S Health 3.0, which is included on the Galaxy S5 smartphone, and Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo smartwatches. The Healthbook app will track a users vital signs such as blood pressure, hydration levels, and heart rate, plus it will remind users to take their daily medications.

Starbucks to Add Digital Tipping to Redesigned iPhone App

Next week, users of the Starbucks iPhone app will notice significant improvements to their coffee buying experience. The company has revealed that enhancements to the app are in the pipeline and will be released in a March 19 update.

Customers in the US, UK and Canada will be able to leave their barista tips directly from the iPhone at over 7,000 Starbucks locations. Considering that Starbucks reports over 11 percent of all transactions now occur using a mobile device, baristas must be happy to hear that generous customers can easily deliver a gratuity without cash.
