How can I block spam text messages on Verizon?
Update (06/14/19): Verizon has rolled out a new spam/robocalls blocking tool called "Verizon Call Filter." This new feature alerts Verizon customers to to incoming spam calls and allows them to report and block unwanted numbers. Depending on your device, you will see "a name, a picture, city and state when you receive an incoming call, text or voicemail from an unknown number." Click the link above for a Verizon Call Filter guide. You can also click here for more spam/robocall blocking tools on your iPhone.

This advice is totally useless as the spam sender's number is usually not a real phone number but text. In addition, the spammer keeps generating new phone numbers by the minute. So blocking one number, even if it was genuine, would have no effect very shortly.

Verizon technical support informed me that there is no way to block text messages on iPhones. All you can do is stop the number from calling you. Or if the spammer is emailing to text, you can register the email address.

I tried forwarding my text message spam to 7726, but that just gets me an e-mail telling me to reply with the phone number of the spammer. I have no idea how to find that number. Most of my text message spam and my wife's spam is from Verizon to begin with.
