Do you miss Google Maps? Did the iOS 6.0 update shorten battery life on your A4 device? Whether you upgraded by mistake, or you're just looking to bring back the older firmware, now you can downgrade your iPhone 4 or iPhone 3GS to iOS 5.1.1. The following iOS downgrade instructions work on most A4 devices, including the iPod touch 4G.
Now that Apple has stopped signing older firmware, you must have your SHSH blobs saved for iOS 5.1.1 for this procedure to work properly. Downgrading will also require that you have the appropriate IPSW firmware file downloaded to your computer. You can grab iOS 5.1.1 for the iPhone 4 here, or for the iPhone 3GS at this link. Make sure you know where this IPSW file is saved before starting the instructions below.
1. Download redsn0w 0.9.14b2 from iPhone Dev-Team.
2. If your SHSH blob is stored on your computer, put it in the same folder as the iOS 5.1.1 IPSW file. If your SHSH blob is stored on Cydia, then proceed to step 3.
3. Put the iPhone you are downgrading from iOS 6 to iOS 5.1.1 into DFU mode.4. Open redsn0w and navigate to Extras -> SHSH blobs -> Stitch.
Newest iPhone FAQs
5. Select IPSW and choose the iOS 5.1.1 IPSW file for your iPhone.
6. If your SHSH blobs are stored on the computer, select Local and choose the iOS 5.1.1 SHSH file. If your SHSH blobs are stored on Cydia, select Cydia.
7. After your SHSH blob and IPSW firmware files are located redsn0w will proceed to stitch them together. This makes it possible for the new custom firmware to be installed without Apple signing iOS 5.1.1 for your device.
8. When redsn0w is finished stitching, go back twice and select Pwned DFU.
9. Open iTunes on your computer. The iPhone should appear as a device in recovery mode. While holding down the Option key on the keyboard, click the Restore button. Choose the stitched custom firmware file redsn0w just created.
10. Wait for iTunes to restore your iPhone. An unknown error (-1) dialog box might appear.
11. Go back to redsn0w and navigate to Extras -> Recovery fix. Put your iPhone into DFU mode again.
12. Once redsn0w finishes with the recovery fix, your iPhone will be successfully downgraded to iOS 5.1.1.

Ok guys I think I have figured out an extremely easy way to downgrade to 5.1.1 on iphone 4 and 3gs without getting "No Service" msg on the top bar if you have experienced this, also no errors from itunes or going anywhere near itunes for a downgrade, i know heaps of people who have had this problem, feel free to post this on all sites where people are having issues downgrading through itunes or getting no service message
1. download latest red snow
2. download latest snow breeze
3.download 5.1.1 firmware
4.open snowbreeze and click on "Baseband preservation mode" so u dont jailbreak your phone, you just want to restore to original firmware for now, a msg will pop up press yes to proceed
5. continue to build custom firmware
6. once its done open redsnow, but make sure you know where your firmware was saved, it usually starts with snowbreeze........etc mine was usually on the desktop
7. once youve opened redsnow go to extras
8.then click on "Even more" button, make sure your dont upgrade your baseband, preserve it or u'll screw up ur phone!!!!
9. click on restore and follow the prompts
10. once u follow the prompts it will begin to restore your iphone to 5.1.1, once its finished you'll be back to stock firmware, set it up as usual it will have "No Service" initially but once you get to the wifi section of set up click connect through itunes and continue set up or you can proceed with wifi if you want, your service will come up before youve completed setting up your phone
11. Congrats on downgrading your phone with no errors through itunes which is a pain in the ass and getting rid of that shitty ios 6 operating system
If you have any worries or questions let me know,.......btw do not upgrade your baseband through redsnow
then you can jailbreak through absinthe :)
Feel free to email me if you have any problems

I followed the steps exactly as instructed but when I click restore on iTunes it gives back that you have to restore and update to ios 6.0.1. How can I solve this issue?

Hi, After downloading the zip file 783MB and extracting it i can't find the iOS 5.1.1 IPSW file
to follow step number 5. ( 5. Select IPSW and choose the iOS 5.1.1 IPSW file for your iPhone ).
So please could tell me what did you do on step 5.

if you downloaded it via internet explorer and it looks like a zip(compressed) folder delete it and download through firefox it will look like a white box which will be in the correct format for you to be able to find it, let me know if this helps

Bob Bhatnagar, writer of this article is FRICKING BRILLIANT !!!!!!!! I have been JB since 3/3g days and its been getting tougher and tougher. I spent HOURS working on 5.1.1 JB and countless webpages.
I have reformatted an IP4 2 in the last year times using the EXACT STEPS and it was PERFECT.
The above is the REAL DEAL.
