iPhone 5 Light Leak Problem Confirmed

A light leak issue plaguing some white iPhone 5 models has been confirmed by BGR. The first known complaint was published by MacRumors member "Leotno" on the MacRumors' message board. According to the thread, some white iPhone 5 models are leaking light between the device’s glass display and aluminum antenna.

BGR noticed their white iPhone 5 is also suffering from the light leak problem:

"BGR has confirmed on one of its own units that there is indeed a small crack on some new iPhone 5 units located just below the power button. It’s uncertain at this point if the issue is an isolated one that affects only some iPhone 5 models or if it’s actually a widespread defect.

"Demand for iPhone 5 has been incredible and we are working hard to get an iPhone 5 into the hands of every customer who wants one as quickly as possible," said Tim Cook, Apple's CEO. "While we have sold out of our initial supply, stores continue to receive iPhone 5 shipments regularly and customers can continue to order online and receive an estimated delivery date. We appreciate everyone's patience and are working hard to build enough iPhone 5s for everyone."

More iPhone 5 and iOS 6 Surprises Come to Light

With the iPhone 5 rumor mill going crazy, it's easy to think that all of the hardware and software details have already been revealed. In reality, it's not until devices start getting into the hands of everyday users that some surprises crop up. For all of the rumored features that don't come true (like a totally waterproof iPhone 5, for example) there are always some unexpected positives that come our way.

For one, even though the iPhone 5 camera has the same basic specifications as the previous model, low-light photo quality is superior. Video quality comparisons have also shown the iPhone 5 camera to be a significant step up over the iPhone 4S. Of course, these reports combined with the fact that the front-facing FaceTime camera is now HD means imaging has taken another step forward on the iPhone 5.

First Picture of a Jailbroken iPhone 5 Running Cydia

The well known jailbreak developer Chpwn (aka Grant Paul) tweeted a screenshot of Cydia running on an iPhone 5 the same day the device was released. While this is exciting news, it does not mean an untethered iOS 6 jailbreak is right around the corner. It took the jailbreaking community a couple of months to publicly release Absinthe 2.0, even though three different jailbreaks were reported to be working on the new iPad before its release.

This hopefully means the jailbreaking community is also on the road to jailbreakng other iDevices running iOS 6.
