iPhone SE 2 rumored to launch early 2020

Fans of the iPhone SE have been anxiously awaiting an update to Apple's 4-inch smartphone for years. Numerous reports had speculated that a more powerful version of the hardware was on the horizon as early as 2018. The iPhone SE was finally discontinued by Apple at the beginning of 2019, well after the company first launched the device in early 2016. A flurry of reports this fall indicate that Apple is getting closer to bringing yet another modestly-sized, less expensive option to the smartphone market.

Apple continues to improve its camera sensors and augmented reality (AR) development kits, reportedly with an eye on future wearables using the technology. Apple is said to be releasing enhanced 3D camera sensors on the 2020 iPad Pro refresh. The same sensor could appear on 2020 iPhones later in the year, making it possible to scan and create three dimensional models from anywhere. This would set the stage for a combination AR and virtual reality (VR) headset for launch by 2022 or earlier.

For this year's awards, games were given their own category. Apple also designated "Storytelling Simplified" as the App Trend of 2019. The trend cited apps which help the creators of podcasts, novels, and photo collages tell stories in their own voices.
